Dear Editor,
The indecisive Allan Labor Government’s poor planning and lack of foresight regarding Victoria’s energy security has been exposed once again.
Premier Jacinta Allan pushed unrealistic renewable targets, phasing out gas in favour of electricity, only to now acknowledge that gas is essential to Victoria’s energy future.
Amid all the hoopla, the Premier’s new gas policy is effectively no different from the old one, despite the government’s misleading announcement to the contrary.
Gas cooktops can be installed or upgraded in existing homes, but Labor’s roadmap still bans gas connections in new developments and prohibits gas appliances in rental properties.
This is deeply concerning for regional areas like Bendigo, where many families rely on affordable gas options to get by.
The Premier needs to show strong and stable leadership, instead of making knee-jerk reactions focused on appeasing inner-city voters.
Despite known reserves in Victoria, the State Government has not issued a single permit in the last 10 years to enable conventional onshore gas exploration.
The Labor Government has failed to provide reliable and affordable energy in Victoria, and their policies are contributing to soaring energy bills.
Instead, the Premier seems more focused on pouring billions into the Suburban Rail Loop, while Bendigo residents continue to struggle with the rising living costs.
Labor can’t manage energy and regional Victorians are paying the price.
Kind regards,
Gaelle Broad MP
