An historic regional sitting of the Victorian Upper House will be held in Echuca on Thursday and members of the public are invited to attend.
The Nationals Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad said the regional sitting was being held to show support for regional communities impacted by the floods.
“Across Northern Victoria many residents are still without homes following the floods,” Ms Broad said.
“Parliament spends about 17 weeks in Melbourne each year, and it’s important that Parliament spends time in regional communities to better understand some of the challenges.”
The Victorian Parliament is also hosting youth forums in Shepparton and Kyabram this week and Gaelle Broad was delighted to attend and listen to young people share what matters to them.
As part of the regional sitting, workshops are being held for younger school students, and VCE students will have an opportunity to ask the Parliamentary team about the work of Parliament.
A highlight will be an extensive farmers market on Thursday April 18 in Echuca, showcasing local produce.
“Parliament exists to serve people, and I’m delighted that Parliament is coming to Northern Victoria and invite residents from across the region to attend.” Ms Broad said.
The regional sitting will be held at the Echuca library. Members of the public are welcome and photo identification will be required.
