The Allan Labor Government must provide an update on the planned reopening of the Harcourt Railway Station which is still in limbo, seven years after it was promised.
The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad said she had spoken to locals who were concerned the project had gone off the rails.
In Parliament this week, Ms Broad formally asked the Minister for Transport Infrastructure to provide further information on the project.
“In August 2018 the Labor Government promised upgrades to the Bendigo-Kyneton rail line and said that the Harcourt railway station would re-open if a Labor Government was re-elected,” Ms Broad said.
“After winning government, in May 2019 the Labor Government issued a media release, stating planning would get underway for the reopening of Harcourt station.
“In 2021 the Regional Rail Revival Vline project said it included a planning study for the reopening of Harcourt station.”
But Ms Broad said that according to Victoria’s Big Build website, the Bendigo and Echuca line upgrade was listed as complete.
“It’s now been seven years since the Labor Government promised to reopen the Harcourt station,” Ms Broad said.
“Can the Minister provide an update on the status of the Harcourt Station planning study, and confirm whether the government still intends to deliver on its promise to reopen the station?”
