Nationals Member for Northern Victoria Region Gaelle Broad has urged people affected by the 2022 Victorian Floods to ensure they apply for the relevant grants before the cut-off date on 1 May.
Ms Broad said the Business and Community Sport Flood Recovery Grant program was aimed at small businesses, not-for-profit and community sport and recreation organisations that had suffered direct loss or damage from the floods.
“This could be the last chance for people to apply before they close next week,” Ms Broad said.
“People can apply for up to $50,000 to cover expenses resulting from direct flood damage to property, assets, stock or equipment.”
Ms Broad said a separate program, the Primary Producer Flood Recovery Grants will close on 13 July.
“Six months on from the disastrous floods of October 2022, this is a timely reminder of the massive losses that some people have endured.
Ms Broad also urged people affected by the floods, to get their submissions in to the current Parliamentary Inquiry before submissions close on Monday 5 June 2023.
Ms Broad is a member of the Parliamentary Committee conducting the inquiry, and urged residents impacted by the floods to make a submission.
“Recommendations from this inquiry will help shape Victoria’s response to floods in the future, and I encourage residents to share their experience and attend a public hearing.
Public hearings for this inquiry are currently scheduled as follows:
- 23 August 2023, Rochester
- 24 August 2023, Echuca
- 13 September 2023, Shepparton
- 14 September 2023, Seymour
- 11 -12 October 2023, Melbourne
“This is a real opportunity for people to talk about how the floods affected them, and to look at what could be done differently in the future to reduce the devastating impact of floods.
