The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad has again raised the JB Osborne Theatre in Parliament, noting that a response from the Minister is now overdue.
“On 30 July I presented a petition in relation to the JB Osborne Theatre,” Ms Broad told Parliament.
“A response from the Minister for Education was due on 29 August and the community is yet to receive a response from the Minister.”
“More than 1000 people signed a petition calling on the Government to assist with restoration works at the 400-seat theatre, which has fallen into disrepair in recent years.”
Ms Broad has also written to the Minister for Education asking for a response.
“The petitioners wish to expand the use of the facility to benefit the wider community. They hope to construct multi-purpose change rooms that can be used by Crusoe College, as well as theatre and sports groups. The theatre is ideally positioned next to a sports oval,” Ms Broad told the Minister.
“Once restored, the theatre could also be used for a range of other activities that would benefit the wider Bendigo community.
“I remember taking my kids to see the Wiggles perform on stage at the JB Osborne Theatre many years ago, and it’s important that these valuable community assets are maintained and put to good use.
“It’s disappointing to see yet another state government building left to fall into a state of disrepair.
“I commend the Kangaroo Flat community for their commitment to progressing this project and I look forward to the Minister’s response on this matter.”
