A petition calling for support to restore the JB Osborne Theatre in Kangaroo Flat has been tabled in Parliament.
The petition was initiated by the Kangaroo Flat Community Enterprise (KFCE), and The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad sponsored the petition in Parliament.
“The petition has gathered more than 1000 signatures, reflecting strong support from the local community,” Ms Broad said.
The petition pointed out that the 400-seat theatre was a valuable community asset that had fallen into disrepair.
Ms Broad said, “I remember taking my kids to see the Wiggles perform on stage at the JB Osborne Theatre many years ago, and it’s important that these valuable community assets are maintained and put to good use by the local community”
“It’s disappointing to see yet another state government building left to fall into a state of disrepair.”
The theatre at Crusoe College is adjacent to a sporting oval. The petition calls for the theatre to be restored, including the construction of multi-purpose change rooms for use by the school and local community.
Ms Broad commended the Kangaroo Flat community on the petition, and their ongoing commitment to the project.
“Petitions provide a valuable opportunity to campaign for change and for local communities to have their voice heard in Parliament,” Ms Broad said.
Once a petition has been tabled it becomes part of the public record and a copy is sent to the relevant Minister.
In the Legislative Council the Minister must provide a written response within 30 days.
