Bus services to Marong will be reviewed after The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad raised the issue in Parliament.
Ms Broad said the move was a win for local residents who had campaigned for extra public transport services.
Ms Broad was contacted by locals who asked if the Maiden Gully bus route could be extended to Marong – just a few kilometres away – to service residents, families and schoolchildren travelling to work and school.
“Marong is only 15km from the Bendigo city centre.
“By contrast, Junortoun is 14km away and Strathfieldsaye is 10km away. Both have a bus service,” she said.
Ms Broad told Parliament Marong was a thriving and growing community with a solid family base.
“The Minister advised me that she has asked the Department of Transport and Planning to take the request for additional bus services into consideration as part of ongoing network review and planning activities.
“There are two existing V/Line coach services that come through Marong, as well as several school buses, but extra services would be welcome in the town.
“I commend the community for their work on this important issue.”
