Bendigo residents had the chance to share their ideas and concerns first-hand with the Victorian Nationals Leader Danny O’Brien today as he visited the region to meet with community leaders and local businesses.
Mr O’Brien, who is also the Shadow Minister for Roads and Road Safety, Emergency Services and Regional Development and Liveability was in Bendigo for a series of meetings with The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad.
Topics included the rising crime rate; the CFA and emergency services; roads; local government and regional issues.
“With only 416 days until the next state election, today was a great opportunity to listen to people, promote our positive plans, and show people that there is a real alternative at the ballot box next year,” Mr O’Brien said.
“We are committed to less waste, lower taxes and less crime.
“The Nationals will have a clear focus on Bendigo at the next election because regional Victorians deserve a fresh start,” he said.
Ms Broad said she was delighted to host Mr O’Brien and facilitate discussions with a wide range of groups and individuals.
“Today was a great opportunity for locals to speak directly to the Leader of The Nationals and for him to hear their ideas and concerns first-hand,” Ms Broad said.
“For too long, regional families, farmers and small businesses have carried the weight of higher costs, more tax and rising crime.”
If elected in November 2026, The Nationals will:
- Scrap five taxes – including Labor’s new emergency services tax;
- Help first homebuyers get their first home by reducing stamp duty;
- Build better roads;
- Make our communities safer with Break Bail, Face Jail, get knives off the street with Jack’s Law and implement youth support programs to put our kids on a better path; and
- Protect landholder rights by listening to the community on renewable energy projects, scrapping Labor’s forced land access laws and putting a 2km buffer between turbines and homes.
