The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad has highlighted a massive decline in road maintenance funding under Labor.
“Road surfaces are cracked, edges are crumbling, and potholes are forming. In many areas they are a patch up job, and instead of fixing the problem the state government is just putting signs up to reduce the speed limit,” Ms Broad said.
“The government’s own survey showed 91% of roads are in poor or very poor condition, and I’ve raised these issues with the Minister in Parliament because there’s roads right across Northern Victoria that desperately need repairs.
“It was very disappointing when our region has been hit so hard by the floods to receive the Minister’s response just last week, which states that the Government prioritised road works in the south west of the state.
“Labor can’t manage money, and they can’t manage projects. In the last year funds for roads resurfacing has dropped by over 80%, which means our roads are only getting worse.
“Our regional roads are left with the crumbs off the table, while the State Government continues to waste billions of dollars on Big Build projects providing jobs for their mates in the CFMEU.
“The state government should be investing funds to improve our roads, instead we’re going backwards.”
