The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad has urged the State Government to review the Transport Victoria journey planner app, saying it does not allow a realistic timeframe for people to change between V/Line and Metro services.
“The Transport Victoria journey planner currently allows just one minute to change platforms at Footscray station,” Ms Broad said.
“According to the app, that is a distance of only 20 metres – possibly if you could fly between platforms.
“In reality, passengers must climb multiple sets of stairs, exit through the gates, descend again and swipe back through the barriers.
“For most commuters, especially those with luggage, mobility issues or children, one minute simply is not enough.”
Ms Broad said that missing a V/Line service could mean waiting another hour for the next train.
“A Public Transport Victoria staff member has confirmed that this problem is well known and regularly affects travellers.”
Ms Broad urged the minister to review the journey planner connection times between city and V/Line services.
“We need to ensure that they accurately reflect the time required for passengers to walk, not fly, between platforms,” Ms Broad said.
“I’m keen to hear from people who have experienced issues with the app,” Ms Broad said.
“People are welcome to contact my office to share their stories at 30 Queen Street Bendigo, email gaelle.broad@parliament.vic.gov.au or telephone 1300 423 553.”
