The Nationals Member for Northern Victoria region Gaelle Broad today tabled two petitions in
Parliament on behalf of local residents seeking to save the old Inglewood ambulance station from
demolition.
Local residents have shown their support to save the building and put it to good use rather than see
it thrown on the scrap heap.
“They would like to see it used either as a community base or as additional office space for
Inglewood and Districts Health Service,” Ms Broad said.
“I commend the hundreds of people who have signed the petition and are standing up for their
community,” Ms Broad said.
Ms Broad raised the matter in Parliament and has also written to the Minister, and contacted her
office by phone as time is running out.
Local residents are concerned that fencing has gone up around the site, and the building may be
demolished.
“Residents are willing to stage a sit-in protest to save the building from demolition,” Ms Broad told
Parliament.
“At a time when building costs are going up and materials are in short supply it seems sensible to
make use of the building, which I am told is in good condition, rather than knock it down and take
the scraps to the tip just to plant lawn on the site.”
“I have asked the Minister to step in to delay the demolition and facilitate a meeting between
Ambulance Victoria and the Inglewood and Districts Health Service to see if a more amenable
solution can be found,” Ms Broad said.
Ms Broad thanked community advocate Colleen Condliffe for raising the issue and co-ordinating the
petition.
“I certainly hope that the Minister will listen to local residents and delay the demolition of the old
ambulance station.”
