With so many challenges currently facing regional communities, I encourage people to check in with their friends and family members and ask if they are OK.
RU OK Day on September 14 is a timely reminder for us all, to be aware of how people around us are travelling.
As I travel across Northern Victoria, I’ve met many people facing issues that impact their mental health.
Many are struggling to pay rising energy bills, waiting months for surgery, and finding it difficult to rent or buy a home.
The upcoming anniversary of last October’s devastating floods across our region will also be difficult for many who are still recovering.
We all know people who try to soldier on and make the best of things, but RU OK Day reminds us that it’s also a strength to speak up when you need help.
This year’s theme is ‘I’m here to hear’.
Please reach out to those around you. A simple conversation may save a life.
