The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad has congratulated her Federal colleagues after Saturday’s election, saying the results were a strong vote of confidence for the Nationals in northern Victoria.
Dr Anne Webster retained the seat of Mallee with 69.66 per cent of the vote on a two-party preferred basis. Sam Birrell also retained his seat of Nicholls, with 65.54 per cent of the two-party preferred vote.
Ms Broad also noted the massive swing towards The Nationals’ candidate Andrew Lethlean as counting continued in the Federal seat of Bendigo.
“Andrew is highly regarded in the local community and ran a very strong grass roots campaign,” Ms Broad said.
“The support of his family, friends, local business owners, workers and local residents has been amazing to see.
“It’s a lesson in patience waiting for the final results!”
Ms Broad said the election results were a clear endorsement of The Nationals’ work for residents across Northern Victoria.
“I congratulate both Anne and Sam on their results, which reflect the ongoing work they do for their electorates.,” Ms Broad said.
“These are very solid figures which show The Nationals are listening to rural and regional Victorians and working on their behalf.”
Ms Broad also congratulated The Nationals’ Senator for Victoria Bridget McKenzie, who was not up for election this time but worked hard to support her Nationals’ colleagues.
“Bridget has worked tirelessly during this campaign, and her passion for people living in rural and regional areas cannot be understated.”
