Two central Victorian women were among the first responders recognised at Parliament this week as part of a special International Women’s Day function.
The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad hosted Talia Odenthal from Bendigo CFA and Emilie Woodhead from Sedgwick CFA.
The celebratory event was held in Queens Hall at the Victoria State Parliament and brought together 200 women first responders who work or volunteer in emergency services.
“International Women’s Day is a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate the women who contribute to our community in so many different ways,” Ms Broad said.
“This year the Parliament’s focus is on our first-responder women.
“They often face very challenging circumstances and are ready to provide vital care to people who desperately need it in times of trauma.
“We owe them a great debt of gratitude.”
IWD 2025 is a global celebration held annually to celebrate the achievement of women in our communities. It will be formally celebrated on Saturday 8 March 2025.
