Local residents can now report fuel shortages on a new website.
The Nationals have launched the “No Fuel Here” website to build pressure on state and federal governments to prioritise supply for regional communities and spark genuine action on the ongoing fuel crisis.
The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad said she had heard from locals who were deeply distressed by fuel shortages, high fuel prices and the fact that some service stations have simply run out of fuel in recent days.
“The state and federal Labor governments have failed to acknowledge the critical impacts of the fuel crisis in rural and regional areas,” Ms Broad said.
“This is having a real impact on locals who rely on fuel for farming, for business and for their normal family activities, such as simply getting kids to school.
“There will also be a further flow-on effect as high fuel prices are passed on to consumers as they buy their food, build their homes or go about their daily lives.
“Many regional areas do not have the public transport that is available in the city.
“Fuel is not a luxury in rural and regional communities – it’s a necessity.”
Ms Broad said it was critical that governments engaged with fuel wholesalers to make sure fuel supplies went to where they are most needed.
“This is why this website is so important. It will help identify exactly where the issues are.”
If you know of a service station that has run out of fuel, please report it at nofuelhere.com.au
