Submissions are now open for a new inquiry into Victoria’s cultural and creative industries.
The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad will be part of the Legislative Council Economy and Infrastructure Committee conducting the inquiry.
The committee will investigate the funding and support available to the industries.
“The inquiry will look at Victoria’s share of national arts and cultural spending.
“Importantly, this will also include the share allocated to regional Victoria,” Ms Broad said.
“It will consider the ongoing financial sustainability of arts training organisations; and whether state and federal policies and spending are enough to support the industries following the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Ms Broad said it was also important to examine the economic and social impact of Revive, the Commonwealth Government’s Australian cultural policy.
The creative industries include arts, culture, screen, music, design, games development, fashion, publishing and more.
Prior to the pandemic, these industries contributed $33.9 billion to Victoria’s economy and employed 292,000 Victorians.
The committee will also look at whether the government-funded national broadcasters, the ABC and SBS, are spending an appropriate share of their budget in Victoria.
Ms Broad said the committee was keen to hear from people involved in all aspects of the cultural and creative industries – from the general public to experts in their field.
“We want to be able to make recommendations to government about policy changes that will help our cultural and creative sectors to thrive in the future,” she said.

Submissions close on 10 January 2025. The final report will be tabled in Parliament by 30 June 2025.
