Nationals Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad has urged people to nominate a volunteer from their local community for the 2023 Victorian Volunteering Awards.
The awards are now open for nominations but close on July 17. They include recognition for individuals and organisations who have improved community outcomes by volunteering their time and skills.
Ms Broad said she was always in awe of the incredible work done by volunteers.
“In my time as an MP, I have been privileged to meet volunteers who willingly give of their time in a whole range of areas – from community radio, the SES, op shops, Rotary, CWA, RSL, homeless services, disaster relief and health support groups – and this is just the tip of the volunteering iceberg,” Ms Broad said.
“I mentioned in Parliament earlier this year that most volunteers I know do not seek the spotlight for the valuable work they do. Yet, there’s no doubt our communities would simply not be the same without them.
“I am constantly amazed at the selfless time and effort that is so willingly given by volunteers for the common good.”
Ms Broad said she was especially inspired by the stories of volunteers who generously gave of their time and energy to help regional communities impacted by last year’s devastating floods. Volunteers are still working with the flood victims in a range of roles.
Nominations close on July 17.
