Dear editor,
Our local health services are reaching crisis point amid ongoing financial uncertainty and staff burnout.
Our health care workers are under extreme pressure, and I’m told that many nurses are leaving the system because they are simply exhausted.
In Bendigo our major hospital called a code yellow for two days because they were simply overwhelmed.
I spoke to a person whose extremely ill husband had to sit in a wheelchair in a corridor overnight because there were no beds available.
In other regional areas, hospital amalgamations could see 76 health services forced to become 12, with smaller hospitals forcibly merged with larger hubs.
This will lead to job losses for long term staff, the loss of essential services from our local hospitals, and a profound impact on patients who will be forced to travel long distances for crucial health care.
The Allan Labor Government has its priorities all wrong.
It continues to forge ahead with the flawed Suburban Rail Link while cutting vital health care to regional Victorians.
Yours sincerely
