Regional Victorians have waited far too long for their fair share of the state’s infrastructure funding, The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria Gaelle Broad said today.
Ms Broad said quality infrastructure was needed across the state, not just in metropolitan Melbourne.
“In the past 10 years we have seen the Allan Labor Government spend up big on projects in the city.
“At the same time our regional roads are crumbling, our health care system is under incredible pressure, and our emergency service volunteers struggle with outdated facilities.
“Key infrastructure projects, including Bendigo’s new fire station, remain unfinished or abandoned.
“While Labor wastes over $1 million every hour on interest using taxpayer money, our regional communities are missing out.”
Ms Broad said a future Liberal and Nationals Government would deliver 25 per cent of all new infrastructure spending towards projects such as schools, hospitals, roads, and emergency services in regional Victoria under the Fair Share Guarantee.
“It’s well past time that regional Victoria had a fair share of state funding,” Ms Broad said.
Analysis by the independent Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) has confirmed less than 12 per cent of capital spending in the 2025-26 Budget is allocated to regional Victorians.
The PBO estimates that asset investment per person in metropolitan Victoria was more than double that in regional Victoria.
