The Nationals’ Member for Northern Victoria Region Gaelle Broad has urged local residents to roll up their sleeves this week and consider giving blood as part of National Blood Donor Week.
“The Australian Red Cross Lifeblood is looking for donors as demand for blood and blood products is continually rising,” Ms Broad said.
“I urge people to roll up their sleeves and be involved because these donations are literally life-saving.”
Ms Broad recently donated blood and said it was a simple thing that many people can do.
“There is usually a dip in donations during winter due to cold and flu outbreaks, which can lead to critical supply shortages,” Ms Broad said.
“This makes it more important than ever to donate now.”
The theme for this year is ‘One Drop of Humanity. Give Blood. Save Lives.’
Blood Donor Week runs all week and World Blood Donor Day is on June 14.
Lifeblood has a donor base of more than 560,000 Australians but requires more than 1.7 million donations annually.
